Knife Carrier Jailed as Police Crack Down on Street Knives
Adrian Hurst, 32, from Dorchester, has been locked up for carrying a deadly blade in public. Dorset Police are ramping up efforts to clear knives off the streets and stamp out crime linked to weapons.
Caught Red-Handed with Stanley Blade
Hurst was stopped and searched in the early hours of Thursday, 19 February 2026, when officers found a 7.9cm Stanley blade in his pocket. He was immediately arrested and charged with possession of a sharp article in public.
Facing court the same afternoon, Hurst pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months behind bars. While the maximum sentence for knife possession is four years, harsher penalties apply if knives are used in crimes or to injure others.
Dorset Police Take a Zero-Tolerance Stance
Dorset Police are dead set on rooting out anyone carrying knives, regardless of their intent. Their approach includes national campaigns, targeted enforcement, school education programmes, and test purchases from knife-selling retailers.
“Although Dorset has low rates of knife crime and is a safe place to live, it is important that we continue our efforts to remove knives from the streets,” said Detective Sergeant Kate Bleese.
“Hurst was in possession of a knife in a public place and this is unacceptable. We are pleased he is now behind bars and facing justice for his actions.”
