Paedophile Entertainer Jailed for Life After 30 Years of Child Abuse
A 58-year-old man who preyed on children across England for three decades has been locked up for life. Anthony Lewis, also known as Chaz, Chas, Charlie, and Tony, was sentenced today at Norwich Crown Court after confessing to a string of horrific sex crimes.
Decades of Abuse Behind Talent Show Facade
Lewis admitted to:
- 9 counts of rape
- 10 indecent assaults
- 1 sexual assault
All offences targeted girls aged between 4 and 17 from 1987 to 2007 in Norfolk, Surrey, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, and London.
Using his cover as an entertainer, Lewis set up fake talent shows and promised stardom to lure victims. He ingratiated himself with parents and infiltrated churches and charities to get close to vulnerable children.
Police Investigation Uncovers Chilling Evidence
The probe began in September 2017 after a survivor bravely came forward. Police arrested Lewis the following month and found indecent images on his devices. He later pled guilty to possession charges and received a suspended sentence in 2018.
However, the investigation continued, leading to multiple charges this year and his life sentence. Lewis must serve at least 11 years before parole can be considered.
Victims Speak Out on Life-Long Scars
“I felt I couldn’t be around boys or men at all, including my own brother. I couldn’t trust him. That relationship has never been the same.” – Survivor
“He took away my innocence, my childhood and my ability to form relationships.” – Survivor
“The long-term impact has been horrendous… I struggle to trust anybody. Life experiences I should have enjoyed were tainted by what Lewis did.” – Survivor
“I have nightmares of being chased by a shadowy figure. I want him to feel fear in prison, even for a moment, so he knows what I felt.” – Survivor
Judge Andrew Shaw condemned Lewis’s “appalling campaign of sexual abuse” and acknowledged the devastating psychological damage caused. Specialist prosecutor Hendrika Tatam promised that offenders will be pursued regardless of how long ago the abuse occurred.
Detective Constable Verity Holmes warned: “Lewis was a predatory paedophile who exploited children’s talent shows, festivals, churches, and charities. His victims will live with trauma for life, but we remain committed to justice.”
This grim case is a stark reminder to victims that police and prosecutors will fight to bring abusers to justice — no matter how deep their deception or how long ago the crimes were committed.
