London Drug Dealers Jailed After High-Speed Chase
Two London drug dealers, Barrington Laing and Shaun Prendergast, have been locked up after being caught with class A drugs in Margate. Both men admitted to possessing heroin with intent to supply.
Dangerous Police Chase Ends in Crash
On 6 March 2018, Laing, 20, and Prendergast, 21, were spotted driving erratically on Cliff Terrace. They tried to flee from police in a reckless high-speed chase, driving the wrong way around a roundabout near Tivoli Road and narrowly missing oncoming traffic. The chase ended when they crashed into a parked car on Alexandra Road.
Laing, who also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, was taken to hospital. While there, he attempted to hide a large sum of cash under his mattress, but police found and seized the money.
Cash, Drugs, and Phones Seized in Search
Prendergast was found with drugs and electronic scales in his jacket pocket. A search of the car uncovered more cash and four mobile phones, all evidence of their drug dealing operation.
Jail Sentences Handed Down
- Laing was sentenced to four years and four months in prison.
- Prendergast received five years and five months, including separate drugs offences committed in Sussex.
“These two offenders knew they’d broken the law and rather than face the consequences, they put innocent lives at risk by driving dangerously to get away from officers,” said Detective Constable Steve East.
“We worked closely with other forces during this investigation as Prendergast committed drugs offences in Sussex too.
“We will continue to make it hard for criminals to sell drugs in this county and actively seek people like Laing and Prendergast to ensure they are put before the courts.
“Anyone who suspects drug dealers operating in their community should call 101. We want to keep Kent safe and show criminals there’s no hiding place from the law.”
