Detectives have charged a lorry driver after a deadly smash on the M62 claimed the lives of two Ryanair pilots in the early hours of Thursday, 11 July 2024.
Tragic Crash on M62 Westbound
At around 5.31am, emergency services rushed to the scene of a collision involving two lorries and a taxi on the westbound carriageway between junctions 8 and 7.
The taxi was carrying Ryanair pilots Matt Greenhalgh, 28, and Jamie Fernandes, 24. Both men sadly died at the scene.
“Sadly, Matt Greenhalgh and Jamie Fernandes died at the scene. Their families are continuing to be supported by specialist officers,” confirmed Cheshire Police.
The taxi driver survived but sustained serious injuries.
Wirral Man Charged Over Deadly M62 Crash
Anthony Burns, 63, from Headington Road, Upton, Wirral, has been charged following the fatal collision.
He is due to appear at Warrington Magistrates on 25 November, facing two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
