Lorry Driver Jailed for Causing Fatal Head-On Crash in Dover
A Romanian lorry driver has been locked up for two years after a deadly crash that killed two men in Dover. Traian Soare, 51, lost control of his lorry just before midnight on Sunday, 2 July 2017, veering into the opposite lane on the A2 Jubilee Way and smashing into a black Nissan Qashqai.
Two Men Killed in Horrific Collision
The car’s driver, 29-year-old Artem Larionov, and his passenger, 38-year-old Nikita Tsirelson, both from canterbury/" title="Canterbury" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Canterbury, died instantly at the scene. Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit launched a probe, charging Soare with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
Sat Nav Distraction Blamed for Crash
During his court hearing at Canterbury Crown Court on 17 November 2017, Soare admitted he was distracted by his sat nav and failed to focus on the road ahead. He was sentenced to two years in prison, disqualified from driving for two years and seven months, and must pass an extended driving test before getting back behind the wheel.

“When driving a lorry—or any vehicle—is your profession, there’s a responsibility to keep to the highest standards,” said Sergeant Christopher Wade from the SCIU.
“Soare’s dangerous manoeuvre into oncoming traffic had tragic consequences he’ll carry for life. My thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones, and I thank them for their support throughout the case.”
