Man Arrested Over Shocking Plot to Kidnap Holly Willoughby
Gavin Plumb, 36, from Potters Field, Harlow, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged over a chilling plan to kidnap TV presenter Holly Willoughby. He faces grave accusations including soliciting to commit murder and incitement to kidnap.
Alleged Kidnap Plot Uncovered
The prosecution revealed that Plumb supposedly worked with an accomplice to hatch the plot last week. The co-conspirator was reportedly due to arrive from the US imminently. Plumb is said to have gathered equipment aimed at abducting and restraining Willoughby.
During the hearing, Plumb only responded to confirm his personal details, remaining silent on the allegations.
Judge Remands Plumb in Custody
District Judge Caroline Jackson ordered Plumb to stay in custody until a plea hearing scheduled for November 3 at Chelmsford Crown Court.
Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby highlighted the fast-paced investigation, crediting overnight work from police and national partners that quickly led to the charges.
Support Pours in for Holly Willoughby
Fellow This Morning presenters Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond sent Holly “love and biggest hugs” following the distressing news. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, appearing on the show, also expressed his condolences and sent love to Holly and her family.
An ITV spokesperson said: “This news has come as a huge shock to everyone at This Morning and ITV. We are providing all the support we can to Holly and her family at this incredibly distressing time.” ITV is working closely with police to ensure five-star security for Willoughby.
Police Prioritise Holly’s Safety
Detective Superintendent Kirby confirmed that safeguarding Holly is the top priority. The investigation remains ongoing, with close cooperation between Essex Police and the Metropolitan Police Service.
Plumb was arrested on the 1st of the month, with the case continuing at Chelmsford Crown Court next month.
