Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Westminster Car Attack
A 29-year-old man from Birmingham has been charged with two counts of attempted murder following a terrifying car attack near the Houses of Parliament.
Salih Khater Faces Court Over Westminster Incident
Salih Khater, originally from Sudan but a UK national, faces charges after allegedly driving his car into groups of people and police officers on Tuesday, 14 August in Westminster. The shocking attack ended with Khater crashing into barriers outside Parliament.
Terrorism Charges Laid
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is treating the attack as terrorism due to the location, method, and intended targets. Khater is charged with attempted murder of civilians and police officers, offences under section 1(1) of the Criminal Attempts Act 1981.
Upcoming Court Appearance
Khater will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 20 August. The formal charges state:
- Attempted murder of persons at Parliament Square and Abingdon Street, Westminster.
- Attempted murder of police officers on Abingdon Street, Westminster.
