Hartlepool Murder Shock: Man Charged After 70-Year-Old Killed in Brutal Street Attack
A 44-year-old Hartlepool man, Ahmed Alid, is set to face Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He is charged with the murder of 70-year-old Terrence Carney and attempted murder of another man following a violent early morning assault.
Deadly Attack in Hartlepool Town Centre
The horror unfolded Sunday morning after Mr Carney had just used a cash machine in Hartlepool town centre. Officers were called to Wharton Terrace shortly after 5am where a man had been attacked and was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.
Moments later, officers found Terrence Carney critically injured about half a mile away on Tees Street. Despite emergency crews’ best efforts, Mr Carney tragically died at the scene.
Suspect Charged Following Major Investigation
Ahmed Alid, from Hartlepool, was charged with murder and attempted murder at around 10pm on Monday. The charge follows a joint probe by Counter Terrorism Policing North East and Cleveland Police.
Police Assure Public: “Isolated Incident”
Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley said, “We are satisfied that this was an isolated incident and are not seeking anyone else in connection with this matter.” He thanked the community for their support.
Deputy Chief Constable Victoria Fuller praised the bravery of officers on scene and offered condolences to Mr Carney’s family and the other victim involved.
