Man Charged After Police and Firefighter Set on Fire in Shocking Leicester Attack
A Leicester man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly dousing five police officers and a firefighter with flammable liquid and setting them on fire. The terrifying attack unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving the community in stunned disbelief.
Flames Ignited, But Quick-Thinking Saves Lives
According to Leicestershire Police, 27-year-old Ako Faraji threw the incendiary liquid at the emergency responders. A sixth officer narrowly escaped being caught in the blaze. Emergency crews acted swiftly, extinguishing the flames before anyone was seriously injured.
Faraji Faces Multiple Charges Including Arson and Theft
Faraji, who lives on Oxford Street where the incident took place, now faces six counts of attempted murder, arson with intent to endanger life, and a charge under Section 24 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. Police also charged him with theft linked to a separate incident at a Leicester business the day before.
He appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court today and will remain in custody ahead of a Crown Court hearing set for March 25, 2024.
Community Shaken as Police Probe Motive
The attack has rocked the local area, with authorities investigating what drove Faraji to launch such a violent assault. Fortunately, all five police officers and the firefighter are expected to make full recoveries thanks to the rapid and professional emergency response.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as police continue their inquiries.
