Man Convicted After Creepy Car Chase Stalks Woman in Hampshire
A 29-year-old man from Whiteley has been found guilty of stalking after following a woman around Hampshire in his car, sparking fear and distress.
Mini Cooper Manoeuvres Spark Alarm
Hamed Kardani, of Coleridge Drive, was caught driving his Mini Cooper in Swanwick on 4 June 2022, tailing a woman in her 30s. The woman first spotted him following her on the road and later at the Hedge End Marks & Spencer car park.
Kardani parked directly in front of her and locked eyes from inside his car but did not get out. Feeling uneasy, the woman went shopping but found him still waiting outside. When she returned and tried to leave, Kardani started his engine and pursued her again.
Stalker Strikes Again – Even Outside Victim’s Home
Though the woman initially lost him at a roundabout, Kardani caught up at traffic lights and then, chillingly, drove slowly past her home, staring towards her driveway. The entire experience left the woman shaken and forced her to report the incident to police.
Police Crack Down on Disturbing Behaviour
Fareham Neighbourhood Policing Team, led by PC Matt Jones, launched an investigation. CCTV footage identified Kardani, who denied the charges but was convicted this week at Southampton Magistrates’ Court. He is due for sentencing on 23 May.
“Kardani demonstrated a pattern of concerning behaviours in which he continually followed this woman in her car. He pulled up next to her in a car park and waited for her for 20 minutes whilst she shopped,” said PC Jones.
“The victim had to change her routine and take evasive action to escape. Kardani tried to claim it was all ‘nonsense’, but the court didn’t buy it.”
“No one should feel the way she did. We will take robust action against anyone who targets people like this. We encourage anyone affected to report it to us.”
Targeting Violence Against Women and Girls
In response, local police are ramping up patrols in high-traffic areas and training officers to spot and challenge threatening behaviour, especially in the night-time economy. The aim is to protect vulnerable people and swiftly prosecute offenders.
