Husband Guilty of Murder and Arson in Shocking London Case
Amidu Koroma, 48, has been found guilty of murdering his wife, 46-year-old Mariam Kamara, and setting fire to their home in a desperate cover-up. The grim verdict came after a trial at the Old Bailey. Koroma faces sentencing on Monday, 16 October.
Brutal Killing and Arson on Railton Road
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Wood described the crime as a brutal act of violence against a woman. Koroma not only killed Mariam but deliberately set the house ablaze, endangering others in the process.
The horror began in the early hours of 24 January 2022, when police responded to a fire at the couple’s home on Railton Road, SE24. Koroma and their son escaped the blaze, but Mariam was found dead in the top bedroom. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspicious Actions and Forensic Evidence Seal Koroma’s Fate
- Koroma’s odd behaviour raised red flags—he re-entered the burning house to fetch clothes for his son but made no effort to save his wife.
- Investigators found jerry cans filled with petrol in the loft and detected accelerant near Mariam’s body.
- Post-mortem revealed Mariam suffered stab wounds to her neck and chest before the fire started.
- No smoke inhalation showed she was killed before the blaze was ignited.
- Forensics confirmed the fire began with petrol, contradicting Koroma’s claims he couldn’t reach the fire.
- Blood from Mariam was found on Koroma’s clothes alongside burn damage consistent with close flame contact.
Justice Served, Family Left Mourning
Detective Chief Inspector Wood said the Metropolitan Police are committed to tackling violence against women. “Mariam Kamara’s killer has been brought to justice,” he declared. He also offered heartfelt condolences to Mariam’s family and friends, especially her son, who continues to receive support following this tragic ordeal.
