Man Charged with Murder After Woman Dies from Islington Flat Fire

A 42-year-old man has been charged with murder following the tragic death of a woman who suffered fatal burns in a fire at an Islington flat.

Fire Breaks Out in North London Flat

Emergency services rushed to Noll House, Corker Walk, N7, just after 2am on Thursday, 5 July, after reports of a blaze. Inside was 43-year-old Kaltoun Saleh, who sustained serious burns.

She was swiftly taken to a north London hospital before being transferred to a specialist burns unit. Despite desperate efforts, she sadly died from her injuries on Tuesday, 21 August.

Suspect Arrested and Charged

Police found Abdi Quule, 42, also from Noll House, at the scene. He was treated for burns before being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Quule appeared at Highbury Magistrates’ Court on 4 August charged with attempted murder.

On 31 August, he was further charged with the murder of Kaltoun Saleh via video link at the Old Bailey. He is due to appear again at the court on 23 November 2018.

Ongoing Investigation and Impact

  • Four children were taken to hospital as a precaution but suffered no serious injuries.
  • The Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command are leading the probe.
  • Formal ID is pending but detectives are confident the victim is Kaltoun Saleh.
  • The victim’s next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem confirmed Kaltoun died from burns sustained in the fire.
