Knife Attack Shocks Bognor Regis Commuters in Broad Daylight

A man has been jailed after a terrifying knife attack at Bognor Regis railway station during the busy morning rush. Jason McDonagh slashed a victim’s arm deeply in a shocking daylight assault witnessed by horrified commuters.

Attack Unfolded After Early Hours Visit

The victim was visiting a friend’s flat early on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, when McDonagh showed up unannounced. Initially aggressive, McDonagh then fell asleep. Later, when the men headed out for breakfast, McDonagh stayed behind and grew hostile again.

At 8:20am, the victim and his friend asked McDonagh to leave. Instead, he waited nearby, then suddenly lunged from an alley, throwing a glass bottle and lunging with a kitchen knife.

With knives in both hands, McDonagh chased his victim towards the station. CCTV captured the attacker slashing the man’s right arm in the busy station forecourt before knocking him down. Despite the violent onslaught, the victim managed to flee.

Quick Police Response Leads to Arrest and Jail

Thanks to swift calls from witnesses, Sussex Police arrested McDonagh within 24 hours. The victim was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery on a severe arm wound.

BTP Detective Constable Christopher May said: “This was a shocking and completely unprovoked attack in broad daylight, right in front of horrified commuters, including schoolchildren moments earlier. McDonagh’s actions caused serious physical and psychological harm. We worked tirelessly to bring him to justice within 24 hours of the attack.”

McDonagh now faces a hefty prison sentence, removing a dangerous threat from the streets and delivering some justice to the victim and community.
