Hammer Horror in South East London: Man Jailed for Life
A man has been locked up for life after a savage hammer attack on a woman in South East London. Joel Victorious, 51, of Waleran Flats, Southwark, was found guilty of attempted murder following a chilling domestic assault on October 22, 2023. His sentence was handed down at the Old Bailey on September 5, 2024.
Brutal Attack Caught on Scene
In the early hours, police rushed to reports of a “domestic incident” and found the victim collapsed in the street, covered in blood. Victorious had battered her repeatedly on the head with a hammer before chasing her into the road, threatening her with knives. Worst of all, the woman’s children witnessed the terrifying assault.
Officers administered emergency CPR to the victim who suffered life-threatening injuries. They also provided life-saving aid to Victorious, who had stabbed himself during the frenzied attack.

The victim expressed heartfelt thanks to officers at Peckham Police Station for their swift action. She said, “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to officers at Peckham Police Station for their swift and heroic actions in saving my life. Their professionalism and bravery during an incredibly difficult time will forever be remembered.”
She also singled out DC Simone Kidd for her tireless work: “Her dedication and perseverance helped bring the case to a successful conclusion. Her attention to detail and hard work ensured that justice has been served in the case of the attempted murder against me.”
