Man Jailed for Life Over Birmingham Submachine Gun Plot
A 22-year-old from Alum Rock has been locked up for life after plotting a deadly shooting in Birmingham. Sujeel Amjad played a major role in planning a terrifying firearms attack that almost cost a man his life.
Firearms Attack Shakes Birmingham
Amjad was convicted of attempted murder and arson following a shooting spree on December 3. During the violent incident, a house and car were sprayed with bullets in a shocking display of gun crime in the region.
Evidence from Amjad’s phone revealed chilling images of him holding two guns alongside a photo of a Skorpion submachine gun—the very weapon believed to be used in the attack.
Life Sentence and Ongoing Manhunt
At Birmingham Crown Court on September 20, Amjad was sentenced to life behind bars with a minimum of 20 years to serve. A second man, thought to be the shooter, remains on the run abroad. Police are working with international partners to catch him.
Police Warn of Gun Crime Threat
West Midlands Police hailed the conviction as a win, but warned the threat of gun violence remains high. “This case shows the serious dangers firearms pose to our communities,” a spokesperson said. “We are fully committed to tackling gun crime wherever it occurs.”
