Snaresbrook Court Jails Man for Six Years Over Sawn-Off Shotgun
A 21-year-old man from Romford has been locked up after police uncovered a sawn-off shotgun hidden in his bedroom. Pawandeep Sandhu was sentenced to six years at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday, 20 December, for possession of a prohibited firearm.
He also picked up an extra three months for breaching a suspended sentence linked to knife possession.
Shotgun Found in Wardrobe Bottom Drawer
Sandhu’s troubles began on 30 June when officers stopped him at Seven Kings Park, Ilford. After Sandhu and two others fled from police, he was searched and found carrying nearly £500 cash, an iPhone 8, and a car key. Nearby, officers found a machete and two lock knives abandoned in the park.
Later that same day, police raided Sandhu’s family home. Inside his bedroom, they discovered a shortened, single-barrelled 12-bore folding shotgun — a deadly “sawn-off” firearm, capable of killing, confirmed by test-firing with cartridges found at the home.
Ammo, Samurai Swords, Body Armour & More Found in Shocking Haul
- 37 live shotgun cartridges in a bag
- 13 cartridges stashed in a sock
- 11 more rounds in a jacket pocket
- Two Samurai swords
- A metal safe packed with UK and foreign cash
- A box of blank ammunition
- A skeleton face mask, black body armour vest, gloves, and a lock knife
When quizzed, Sandhu claimed he only had the weapons for two to three weeks, saying an unknown man ordered him to hold them. However, police checks on his phone records proved he was the sole user of the device.
A damning video from March 2020 on his phone showed Sandhu with what appeared to be the exact sawn-off shotgun, exposing his lie about how long he possessed it.
Met Police Celebrate Taking Deadly Weapon Off Streets
Detective Inspector Glenn Butler said: “The Met is always working to remove lethal weapons including guns and knives from the streets of London, taking them out of the hands of people who are a danger to our communities.
I am incredibly pleased that another deadly firearm has been taken out of circulation and that the sentence reflects the seriousness of Sandhu’s actions.
Those who carry and try to conceal weapons should have no doubt – we will use every tool at our disposal to protect our communities and put those intent on perpetrating serious violence behind bars.”
