Stepdad Jailed for Stealing Late Wife’s £200k Life Insurance Payout
A 40-year-old man has been locked up for four years after ripping off his late wife’s life insurance cash.
Corby Man Squanders £200k on Holidays and Schemes
Krysztof Baczyski’s wife was diagnosed with cancer in September 2017 and died just two months later. Before she passed, she set up a life insurance policy naming her children as trustees and beneficiaries.
But Baczyski tricked one child into signing over the money, promising he’d keep it safe until they were old enough.
Instead, he splurged the entire £200,000 on luxe holidays, fun days out with his new girlfriend, a dodgy cosmetics pyramid scheme, and lending cash to mates. All gone within nine months.
Fraud Revealed by Shocked Stepkids
Adding insult to injury, Baczyski had already blown the critical illness payout while his wife was still alive.
The stepsiblings tipped off Northamptonshire Police a year later. Baczyski was charged with fraud by false representation, denying all claims.
But a jury at Northampton Crown Court found him guilty in August. He was jailed for four years on December 4.
Detective Condemns Callous Crime
“Krysztof Baczyski was stepfather to these children for 15 years,” said Lead Investigator Detective Constable Lee Meadows.
“His betrayal is shocking. To steal their mum’s life insurance and blow it on short-term luxuries is utterly callous.
“She died tragically young. She had made sure her children were financially secure before she passed away.
“I hope he reflects on his actions behind bars. I’m pleased we got a conviction and hope this brings some closure to the children, allowing them to honour their mum’s memory.”
