Wine Heist Busted: Darren Elson, 42, caught red-handed after swiping nearly £2,000 worth of booze from Majestic Wine in Beckenham.
Champagne and Whiskey Snatched in Broad Daylight
On May 4, Elson stormed Majestic Wine on South Eden Park Road. He made off with two bottles of Bollinger champagne, three bottles each of Jura and Cotswolds whiskey, plus six Moët and four Laurent Perrier champagnes. The heist totalled an eye-watering £1,921.
Guilty Plea and Moral Sentence
Snared by the authorities, Elson faced Bexley Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty. On July 12, he was handed a community order that includes mandatory drug rehab.
Ban and Fine Keep the Peace
Elson is now banned from all Majestic Wine stores. Despite stealing nearly £2,000 worth of booze, he was ordered to pay just a £114 victim surcharge as part of his sentence.
