Pervert Who Exposed Himself to Women in South East London Gets Community Order

A sex pest who flashed women across New Cross and Peckham has been slapped with a two-year Community Order. Godwin Bassey, 35, of Chesterfield Way, SE15, was also forced onto the Sex Offenders Register for five years after being caught and convicted at Inner London Crown Court on July 26.

Serial Flasher Caught After 11 Months of Terrorising Women

Bassey pleaded guilty to seven counts of exposure and one count of assault with intent to resist arrest. Eleven further counts of exposure were also taken into consideration during sentencing.

He targeted lone women or pairs, lurking behind parked cars before flashing and fleeing the scene. His vile antics terrorised women over an 11-month spree in the SE14 and SE15 postcodes.

Violent Arrest Leaves Police Injured

Police finally caught Bassey during a proactive sting in Brimmington Park on February 18. But the pervert didn’t go quietly.

During the struggle, several officers were hurt, including one who suffered a head laceration and ligament damage to her hand.

Detective Praises Victims and Warns Others to Come Forward

“Bassey targeted vulnerable, lone women for his own sexual gratification, striking fear into his victims,” said Detective Constable Sandy Peters of the South Area Command Unit.

“He was caught after a long and complex police investigation. I’d like to thank all the victims who came forward and showed great resilience.

“I also want to acknowledge my colleagues who were injured arresting him. Given the volume of offending, there may be other victims yet to come forward.”
