Man Drives Car Into Crowd, Killing One in Brutal Leytonstone Attack

A 25-year-old man has been convicted of manslaughter after deliberately driving into a group of people in East London, fatally injuring one victim.

Riyaz Adam Found Guilty of Manslaughter

Riyaz Adam, from Pearcroft Road, E11, faced serious charges including murder and attempted murder at the Old Bailey. After a tense trial, the jury cleared him of murder but found him guilty of manslaughter on Thursday, 28 November.

Adam admitted to perverting the course of justice before the trial began and will be sentenced on Wednesday, 4 December.

Ruthless Attack After Night Out

Adam’s co-defendant, 23-year-old Jack Bush of Oakdale Road, E11, saw no verdict as the jury couldn’t decide his fate.

The victim, Constantin, a Romanian man celebrating a christening in the early hours of Sunday, 5 May, was tragically targeted during the chaos.

Deliberate Hit and Run

The court heard that Adam arrived in a Toyota Prius at High Road, Leytonstone, where Bush was spotted drunkenly squaring up to a group of men.

Instead of diffusing the fight, Adam chose violence. He gunned his car forward, swerving straight into the crowd. After a dangerous three-point turn, he drove back into the group, striking two men.

Constantin was thrown onto the bonnet and smashed into the windscreen. Adam sped off with the 51-year-old still clinging to the car’s bonnet before swerving aggressively to shake him loose. The car finally stopped after about 20 metres.

Victim Dies Days Later

Police were called at 00:40am, discovering two injured pedestrians. Both were rushed to hospital, but Constantin tragically died two days later.

Post-mortem revealed multiple injuries as the cause of death.

Adam’s reckless actions have left a community grieving and awaiting justice as sentencing looms.
