Redditch Groomer Jailed for Three Years
A Redditch man has been locked up for three years after being caught grooming a child online. Umar Dawood, 36, of Evesham Road, pleaded guilty to multiple charges at Worcester Crown Court on June 10, following a probe by West Mercia Police’s Child Sexual Exploitation Team (OCSET).
Three Charges, Three Years Behind Bars
Dawood was sentenced to three years for causing a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity. He also received nine months concurrently for attempting sexual communication with a child and an additional month for possessing extreme pornography.
Alongside his prison term, Dawood was slapped with a sexual harm prevention order, ordered to register as a sex offender, and must pay a £228 victim surcharge.
Abuser Held Position of Trust in Community
“Dawood previously held a position of trust as a local Imam teaching children and volunteered with a children’s charity,” said Detective Sergeant Pete Wheeler of West Mercia Police’s OCSET.
“This conviction ensures he can no longer work with children. We hope this custodial sentence brings some reassurance to the community.”
