Isle of Wight Man Jailed for Over 24 Years for Shocking Murder
A 60-year-old man from Sandown has been locked up for 24 years and six months after admitting to the brutal murder of 73-year-old Gerard White.
Admitted Murder After Denial
Jonathan Christopher Stasiuk, of Pier Street, Sandown, initially denied the murder charge and tried to plead manslaughter due to diminished responsibility. But during his trial at Southampton Crown Court on 12 November, he finally admitted to killing Mr White.
Call to Police Led to Grisly Discovery
Stasiuk himself dialled 999 on the afternoon of Monday 27 May, reporting the murder at Lake Community Gardens, near Scotchells Brook Lane, Lake. Police arrived to find Gerard White dead at the scene.
Family Speaks Out
“Gerry’s family is relieved that the accused has admitted being ‘guilty of murder’,” said Mr White’s wife, Lee.
“Heartfelt thanks to the police, prosecution, court staff and everyone involved for their hard work, leading to this satisfactory outcome.”
“The loss has left a giant hole in our lives. Nothing brings Gerry back, but at least justice is served, and for that, we are grateful.”
This grim case has finally reached its conclusion, delivering justice for a devastated family on the Isle of Wight.
