Chief Constable’s Crime Squad Rakes in 489 Years of Jail Time in Just One Year

Kent’s toughest crime-busters are delivering justice in spades. The Chief Constable’s Crime Squad, now in its second year, has smashed high-harm offenders across the county, locking them up for a staggering combined 866 years since its launch in February 2019. The past 12 months alone saw offenders handed 489 years behind bars.

Hit and Hurt: Targeting High-Harm Offenders

Detective Inspector Darren Reynolds, who commands the squad, said: “Our focus is chasing down criminals who don’t think twice about breaking into homes or using violence to rob innocent people and businesses.”

Reynolds added: “We’ve made Kent a nightmare for these offenders. We’ve taken dangerous, so-called ‘sophisticated’ criminals off the streets and stopped them causing more damage. This isn’t just about locking them up; it’s about protecting victims who are at the heart of every case we deal with.”

Crackdown Success Stories

  • A notorious burglary gang was jailed for 23 years after terrorising Maidstone, Whitstable, Canterbury, Tonbridge, Medway, and Sevenoaks.
  • A knife-point robber, who snatched over £10,500 from amusement centres in Gillingham, Romford, and Welling, got seven years after being caught just two days post-raid.
  • In Medway, a car thief who travelled from outside the county was nabbed minutes after stealing a vehicle from Twydall. He’s now serving three and a half years.
  • Four men pretending to be cops broke into a gated home in Ide Hill but were swiftly jailed for a combined 12 years.
  • Two men convicted of historic sexual offences received hefty 19-year sentences.
  • A woman was sentenced to four and a half years for stealing over £100,000 worth of phones and jewellery across 14 shops in Whitstable, Dover, Canterbury, Maidstone, and Gillingham, using clever distraction tricks.

The Squad’s Winning Formula

The Crime Squad blends detectives and police constables across Kent. They work relentlessly to spot crime patterns and cut offenders off before they strike again. So far, they’ve gained approval to issue 1,890 charges and made 610 arrests—with 830 charges and 295 arrests coming in just the last year.

DI Reynolds said: “Every day we gather fresh intel and use all powers at our disposal. We team up with neighbouring forces and special units, hit the streets in plain clothes, and execute warrants targeting criminals right at home. Kent’s safer than ever—and it’s only getting better.”

Crime Squad is Kent’s last line of defence — and it’s smashing its target.
