Murdered mum Marta Bednarczyk’s heartbroken family say they may never heal after the 43-year-old was killed in a chilling house fire in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

Teen Charged with Murder and Arson

A 13-year-old girl appeared in court today charged with murder and arson with intent to endanger life following the blaze that broke out in the early hours of Monday, March 10, on Newcomen Road.

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 3am. Despite their efforts, Marta was pronounced dead at 3.29am. Police revealed the preliminary cause of death was a sharp force injury. A full post-mortem is still pending.

The teenage suspect, who cannot be named due to her age, was seen clutching a teddy bear during a brief four-minute hearing at Northampton Magistrates’ Court. She has been remanded into secure youth detention and is set to appear at Northampton Crown Court later today.

A Family Shattered

Marta’s relatives paid a touching tribute:

“She was a very caring woman, a loving mother, and a supportive friend who could never do enough for those she loved.”

Known as the “matriarch of our family,” Marta moved from Poland to the UK in 2010. She settled in Wellingborough in 2012 after initially living in London, working in a warehouse to support her family.

She was a devoted mother of three and engaged to her long-term partner Eugene. Her family described her circle as “small but tight-knit”, loved dearly by all who knew her.

“The tragic circumstances of her death will haunt us forever. We are heartbroken beyond words and will never forget our lovely Marta.”

The family also expressed thanks to police for their support during this heartbreaking time.

Ongoing Police Probe

Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said:

“We have formally charged a 13-year-old Wellingborough girl with murder and arson.”

“I want to thank our officers and staff who continue working tirelessly on this investigation since the tragic events early yesterday morning.”

“All our thoughts are with Marta’s family who have been fully cooperative during this devastating time.”

Police and forensic teams remained at Newcomen Road into Wednesday as investigations continue into the fire’s origins and how Marta sustained her fatal injuries.

More updates are expected following the teen’s Crown Court appearance later today.
