PC George Massey’s luck finally ran out after he was caught drink-driving on London Road on October 29. The police officer blew over the limit at a roadside breath test and was promptly arrested.
Blowing Over the Limit Twice
Once in custody, Massey took a second breathalyser test that recorded 43 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is just 35 micrograms – making it a clear fail.
Quick Guilty Plea and Heavy Sentence
At Bexley Magistrates’ Court on November 14, Massey pleaded guilty to drink-driving. The court handed down a tough punishment: a one-year driving ban and a £120 fine.
- £85 court costs
- £48 victim surcharge
Met Police Drop PC Massey Without Notice
On December 22, a Metropolitan Police misconduct panel decided to sack Massey without notice. Commander Stephen Clayman slammed the officer:
“PC Massey has pleaded guilty to a criminal offence. Officers are there to uphold the law and not to break it. PC Massey was responsible for his own actions.”
Massey will now be added to the College of Policing’s barred list, officially banning him from ever returning to the force.
