Met Police Special Constable Sacked Over Theft and Weapons Charges
A Metropolitan Police special constable has been booted following a shocking conviction for theft and possession of offensive weapons.
Toby Biginton Caught Red-Handed
MSC Toby Biginton, assigned to the South East Command Unit, was found guilty of six counts of theft by employee and two counts of possessing offensive weapons in a private place. During a 2021 raid on his home, officers discovered three police batons. Biginton claimed they were connected to his police duties — but that excuse didn’t cut it.
Gross Misconduct Sees Squad Member Axed
A fast-tracked misconduct hearing on 16 November found Biginton’s actions amounted to gross misconduct related to discreditable conduct. As a result, he was dismissed from the force with immediate effect.
Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, South East Command Unit, said: “There is no legitimate reason as to why MSC Biginton had these items at his home address and it is right that he has now faced the consequences of his actions. We expect the highest standards from all of our employees, including our special constables who have the same powers as police officers. We will not tolerate this type of behaviour and we are pleased that a thorough investigation brought his actions to light.”
Sentencing Still Pending
Toby Biginton is set to be sentenced at a later date. Meanwhile, the Met has made it clear: no place for crooks in their ranks.
