Police recovered a haul of cash and drugs after a high-speed chase that nearly saw a suspect ram emergency workers. The man refused to stop when ordered and drove recklessly through the streets.
£54,000 and Drugs Seized After Dangerous Police Chase
The drama unfolded on the morning of Thursday 2 March at around 10am in the Ifield Way area. Officers spotted a suspicious car and tried to stop it. But the driver sped off, making dangerous moves that almost caused a collision with emergency crews.
After a tense pursuit, the driver was finally caught. Police found a bag with around £20,000 in cash and a stash of powder believed to be MDMA.
Follow-Up Raids Net More Cash
Officers didn’t stop there. A search warrant executed at a home in Lanters Way, London, turned up an extra £34,000 in cash. The total cash haul hit a staggering £54,000.
Man Charged with Serious Offences
Shofique Miah, 40, from Bethnal Green, London, has been slapped with multiple charges. These include possession with intent to supply MDMA, possession of criminal property, obstructing a police officer, dangerous driving, failing to stop after a crash, and refusing to provide a specimen.
Miah appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 3 March and was granted conditional bail. He is due to face Maidstone Crown Court on 31 March.
