Newborn Baby Girl Found Dead in Camden Sparks Murder Probe
The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation after a newborn baby girl tragically died in Camden. Officers were called when a mother arrived at hospital following an emergency birth at 2:06 PM on Monday.
Body Discovered in Bloomsbury Flat, Two Arrested
Detectives searched a flat on Taviton Street, Bloomsbury, where they found the baby’s body. A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, child neglect, and concealment of birth. Meanwhile, a 29-year-old woman faces charges of child destruction under the Infant Life Preservation Act 1929. Both suspects have been released on bail while inquiries continue.
Police Offer Update and Appeal for Information
“The baby was delivered full-term inside a residential address and her remains were later recovered from a refuse container outside the building,” said Detective Chief Inspector Neil John. “This is a terribly sad case and we thank local residents for their patience. We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
A crime scene remains at the upscale Taviton Street, close to Camden, where homes can be worth up to £3 million. Officers continue to guard the area as the investigation unfolds.
Community Reassured as Police Maintain Presence
Detective Chief Inspector Sarb Kaur said, “This was an isolated incident. While the baby’s death is deeply upsetting, there is no wider risk to the community. Officers will remain on scene, and local residents with concerns can talk to our team.”
