Bassetlaw Police Crack Down on Drugs, Anti-Social Behaviour, and Vehicle Crime

Inspector Hayley Crawford has revamped her policing priorities after listening to local residents’ concerns. The new top targets for Bassetlaw are drug supply and use, anti-social behaviour, and vehicle-related crime. These issues will take centre stage from November through January as the neighbourhood policing team ramps up efforts to protect the community.

Recent Arrests Show Police Taking Action

In just the last month, the Bassetlaw police team has made key arrests to tackle rising crime. A 23-year-old man was arrested suspected of burglary after a car was stolen from a driveway. Officers also joined forces in an operation on the A1 to combat fuel thefts, leading to two burglary arrests. A drug driver was caught during a rural crime crackdown, showing police are hitting all angles.

Inspector Crawford’s Message: Fighting Crime to Protect Bassetlaw

“These priorities are here for us to focus on and really crack down on those people committing these sorts of crimes,” said Insp Crawford. “This isn’t to ignore other crimes – every offence is serious to us. We’re committed to bringing all criminals to justice.”

Inspector Crawford highlighted that anti-social behaviour remains a big concern for locals. Thanks to government Safer Streets funding, patrols and operations have increased in hotspots. The police are working closely with the council and holding public drop-in sessions to listen and respond to community issues.

On drugs, Operation Reacher is actively targeting houses and premises involved in illegal drug distribution. “Drug supply and use severely impact communities – that’s why we’re dedicated to cracking down hard,” added the inspector.

Big Focus on Vehicle Crime – It’s Not Just About Cars, It’s About Livelihoods

Vehicle crime, including theft, fuel theft, and car key burglaries, is getting heightened attention. “We know vehicles aren’t just a mode of transport but often key to people’s jobs. That’s why fighting these crimes is a top priority,” said Insp Crawford.

Regular operations on the A1 focus on fuel theft, while the police have worked with the council to offer free Faraday pouches to protect keyless cars. Cross-border cooperation helps spot patterns and hit trouble spots.

Police Urge Victims to Speak Out

Insp Crawford urges anyone affected by rural crime, vehicle crime, or anti-social behaviour to come forward. “We are here to help and will keep fighting the issues that matter most to Bassetlaw,” she said.

Residents can contact the Bassetlaw neighbourhood team via the Nottinghamshire Police website or by calling 101.
