Canterbury Man Jailed for Brutal Knife Assault on Woman
A Canterbury man has been locked up for six years after brutally attacking a woman who tried to help him.
Knife Threat and Assault in Home Horror
On 3 September 2019, 40-year-old Newsun Jose subjected a woman to a terrifying ordeal. She had offered him help after hearing him being sick at his Salisbury Road home. Instead, Jose tried to sexually assault her, forcing her to remove her clothes at knifepoint.
He slapped her, grabbed her throat, and cut her face with a knife, leaving permanent scars. The victim bravely shouted for help, aware that others were nearby.
Hero Steps In to Save Victim
A man heard the cries and rushed to her aid, wresting the knife from Jose and helping her escape the house.
Jose was found guilty of assault with intent to commit a sexual offence at Canterbury Crown Court and sentenced on 6 October 2020 to six years behind bars, followed by four years on licence.
Police Condemn Jose’s Actions
“Jose, despite overwhelming evidence, has never accepted his actions or shown any remorse. He consistently blamed others for his actions and sought to lay the blame on his victim,” said DC Jeff Brunger.
“I have no doubt that Jose is dangerous to women and that it is right and proper he was imprisoned ensuring that others are protected from him.
“I would like to thank the courage and conviction of the victim and witnesses for reliving what was a very traumatic incident.”
