Couple Caught After Daring Escape Attempt in St Ives Cannabis Raid
A couple growing over 300 cannabis plants in a St Ives home made a desperate bid to avoid arrest by jumping out of a window and hiding in the loft.
Community Tip-Off Leads Police to London Road Grow House
In January, concerned locals alerted police to suspicious activity at a property on London Road. On January 10, the Huntingdonshire neighbourhood team stormed the scene, finding the front door barricaded.
Officers witnessed Chovan Ceo, 43, leaping from a window and Lan Thi Nguyen, 50, hiding beneath loft insulation in a frantic escape attempt.
£500k Cannabis Farm Busted, Pair Sentenced
Inside the house, officers uncovered more than 300 cannabis plants with a street value nearing £500,000. Both Ceo and Nguyen later pleaded guilty to cannabis production at Cambridge Crown Court.
The duo were jailed for two years and three months each, ending their illegal operation.
“Thanks to members of the community, this illegal drug will not reach the streets, and this pair is behind bars,” said PC Tom Russell from the Huntingdonshire neighbourhood team.
Police Warn of Cannabis Factory Signs
Russell added that drug trafficking often links to organised crime and serious offences like modern slavery. He urged residents to watch for tell-tale signs of grow houses:
- Blacked-out windows
- Unusual patterns of people coming and going at odd hours
Thanks to quick community action, a massive St Ives cannabis farm has been shut down, and two criminals are now behind bars.
