Bexley Burglary Blitz: Police Nab Two Men After 32 Offences
Burglary Spree Shakes South East London
The Met’s South East burglary squad joined forces with local neighbourhood teams to tackle a wave of crime hitting Bexley. The cases involved stolen cash, bank cards, cars, and brazen home break-ins throughout February and March.
Officers dug deep, piecing together clues from CCTV footage, victim statements, and tracking how stolen bank cards were used. The newly formed Burglary Proactive Team teamed up with Bexley’s Safer Neighbourhood Team to gather intelligence and crack the cases wide open.
24-Hour Police Push Pays Off
Determined not to leave any stone unturned, one burglary officer worked through a gruelling 24-hour shift to connect the dots. The relentless effort helped bring two men to justice, who now face charges for a staggering total of 32 offences.
Detectives Speak Out on Crime Impact
Detective Inspector Andrew Gattase from the South East Burglary Squad said: “We know, from listening to victims, what a horrible impact burglary has – it’s intrusive, unfair, and it makes you feel vulnerable. Victims tell us how angry and upset it makes them when someone steals from them; perhaps it was a possession with sentimental value, something they’d saved hard for, or something they relied on daily. Our teams in Bexley are committed to hunting down those who spoil our communities with this crime.”
Detective Sergeant Nicki Allen, who oversaw the investigation, added: “Cases like this cause fear and make people feel unsafe in their own homes. Many officers pitched in, from local neighbourhood heroes to burglary specialists. It was a coordinated effort using local knowledge and expertise. One officer worked a 24-hour shift to ensure nothing was missed. We want the public to know that when they report crime to us, we act fast to catch offenders and protect our communities.”
Community Crime Prevention Efforts
To keep Bexley safe, officers held a Crime Prevention Roadshow at Danson Park on 8 April, sharing advice to help residents protect their homes and belongings.
