Knife Attack in Maidstone: Courage Under Fire
On 3 July 2021, PCs Matthew Smart and Matthew Murray were patrolling Maidstone when a crowd flagged them down on Lower Stone Street. They found a man stabbed multiple times lying on the ground. Acting fast, the officers administered first aid while managing an unruly crowd. Sergeant Steven Tuncliffe, a trained Police Medic, soon joined to help. Together, they treated the victim for 15 minutes until paramedics arrived. Thanks to their efforts, the man survived. Three men involved in the attack are now facing sentencing. All three officers received commendations for their bravery.
Daring Robbery Foiled in Northfleet
Back in July 2019, a man attempted to nick alcohol from a Northfleet shop. But store manager Harry Goraya, his son Jaspal, and a brave member of the public confronted the thief. Even after he pulled a knife, they chased him down after he fled on a stolen bike. They tackled him to the floor and, with help from others, held him until police arrived. The offender was arrested and charged. Harry, Jaspal, and the courageous bystander earned the National Police Public Bravery award.
Life-Saving Teamwork After Dover Collapse
In January 2021, a man collapsed in the middle of the road in Dover. Off-duty PCSO Carl Brett, two off-duty Border Force officers Hayley Ions and Sarah Parker, plus bystanders Daniel Sandy and Glenn Emery rushed to the scene. They performed CPR and, crucially, Mr Sandy fetched a defibrillator from his van. For over 40 minutes, they battled to save the victim’s life until paramedics arrived. Their heroism earned them the prestigious Royal Humane Society Award.
