Man Dies After Paralysed in Horrific Hit-and-Run
Paul tragically died 14 months after a car was deliberately ploughed into his Ford C-Max, leaving him paralysed and seriously injuring his wife. He passed away in hospital from pneumonia and sepsis linked to his injuries.
Driver Jailed for Using Car as Weapon
Samuel Rogers, 45, from Walsall, was locked up for 20 years and six months at Birmingham Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and causing serious injury by reckless driving. Rogers was nearly twice the drink-drive limit when he rammed Paul’s car on Melchett Road in Kings Norton.
Attack Was No Accident – It Was Personal
Investigators revealed that Paul had pulled over to help a woman whose car Rogers had just smashed into. Rogers had followed the woman from her home in Stirchley, where the pair had argued earlier and Rogers ominously declared he “wanted her dead.”
Justice After Six Years of Investigation
Rogers initially fled the scene but returned and was caught by police while paramedics worked on Paul. After Paul died, police reopened the case. Specialist doctors confirmed his fatal illnesses were directly connected to the crash injuries. A jury convicted Rogers of murder on June 17. Sentencing is set for July 7.
“He would not have died if Rogers had not hit him,” said one consultant involved in the investigation.
