Kent Crime Squad Hits 1,000 Charges in Just Over a Year!
A crack team of police officers dedicated to hunting down burglars, robbers, and repeat offenders has smashed through the 1,000th charge milestone — just over a year after they began their mission.
Over 300 Arrests and 377 Years Behind Bars
The Chief Constable’s Crime Squad, launched in February 2019, wasted no time cracking cases. More than 300 arrests have been made in their first year alone, leading to 1,050 charges being authorised.
The results speak for themselves — the force has secured a staggering 377 years of prison sentences for offenders caught red-handed.
Relentless Pursuit of Brit Crime’s Worst
With 87 warrants executed, the squad goes after criminals who randomly target victims across Kent. They work closely with local policing teams, serious crime detectives, and tactical units to keep the county safe.
Chief Constable Alan Pughsley said: “When my Crime Squad was created, its remit was clear – go after offenders who cause serious harm and distress. That’s exactly what this team has done.”
He added, “Achieving over 1,000 charges and 370+ years of prison time in just a year is an astonishing feat. I’m proud the squad carries my name.”
High-Profile Wins Across Kent
- Four Dartford shop robbers forced to plead guilty and sentenced to a combined 34 years.
- Medway man convicted of five sexual offences against local women.
- Serial burglars caught stealing charity boxes across Canterbury and Thanet.
Detective Chief Inspector Lopa McDermott, who leads the squad, said: “Each case represents real victims. We’re committed to supporting them, seeking justice, and stopping offenders in their tracks.”
She warned: “Anyone thinking about committing crimes in Kent should know we have the tools and know-how to catch them — and we will.”
Funding and Future Plans
The Crime Squad is funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner’s council tax precept and has officers spread across the county.
With successful raids and targeted operations against rising crime like catalytic converter thefts, the squad vows not to rest on its laurels.
They’re committed to building on their smashing first year — keeping communities safe, putting victims first, and making sure criminals face the music.
