Portsmouth Police Left Red-Faced After Mistaking Real GP for Impostor

Police Appeal Sparks Social Media Backlash

Portsmouth cops caused a right kerfuffle after issuing an appeal to identify a man claiming to be a doctor. The only problem? Scores of locals instantly recognised him as their very own GP!

According to a police statement, on Tuesday 3rd October, a man said he was administering flu jabs at an address in Sydenham Court, Fratton. The CCTV image released sparked an uproar after residents quickly revealed the man was actually their trusted doctor.

Detectives Miss a Trick Before Going Public

It seems the local police forgot the basic step of checking with nearby surgeries before hitting the ‘send’ button on the appeal. Thousands shared the post on social media and local news outlets, stirring confusion and embarrassment for Hampshire Constabulary.
