Tragedy in Heywood: Two-Week-Old Baby Girl Dies, Man Arrested

Baby Girl Taken to Hospital in Critical Condition

Police were called to a hospital report just before 6:30pm on Friday 8 January 2021 after concerns were raised for a two-week-old baby girl. She was rushed to hospital but, heartbreakingly, passed away on Monday 11 January.

Man Arrested on Suspicion of Murder, Released on Bail

A 24-year-old man was arrested over the baby’s death but has since been released on bail as investigations continue. Officers have secured a scene at an address in Heywood, which is expected to remain cordoned off for several days.

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Chief Inspector Carl Jones of GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “This is a desperately sad incident where a baby has lost her life. We are doing all we can to support the family during this incredibly difficult time.”

He added: “Specialist officers are working hard to uncover the full facts. We urge the public to avoid speculation and respect the family’s privacy.”
