Police Seal Off Kent Pathway in New Sarah Everard Investigation

Detectives from the Met Police have cordoned off a large area in Sandwich, Kent, some 30 miles from the woodland where Sarah Everard’s body was found. The move is part of the ongoing probe into the tragic death of the 33-year-old woman.

Fresh Search on Waterside Path

Officers have been spotted securing a pathway beside a stream in Sandwich, with a police base set up in the town centre, reports Kent Online. The new focus is reportedly on a waterside path and a recycling bin. Locals say police arrived flashing blue lights just after 1pm on Sunday, sparking an immediate lockdown of the area.

Sandwich Town Council confirmed the police cordon, urging residents to avoid the site. A council statement said: “Sandwich Town Council is in contact with Kent Police on behalf of the Metropolitan Police in relation to ongoing investigations associated to the murder of Sarah Everard.” They also warned against public gatherings trying to probe the investigation further.

The Tragic Timeline

Sarah Everard was last seen on the evening of March 3, leaving a friend’s house in Clapham, south London, as she walked home to Brixton. Over a week later, her body was discovered in woodland near Ashford, Kent. Police confirmed the identification via dental records.

Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave addressed the press at Scotland Yard, stating: “As you know, on Wednesday evening detectives investigating the disappearance of Sarah Everard discovered a body secreted in woodland in Kent. The body has now been recovered and formal identification procedure has now been undertaken. I can now confirm that it is the body of Sarah Everard.”

Man Charged Over Murder and Kidnap

Wayne Couzens, 48, a serving Met Police officer, has been charged with Sarah’s murder and kidnap. Couzens appeared briefly at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this week, confirming his name and address. It was revealed Sarah’s body was found in a builder’s bag.

Before the identification was confirmed, Sarah’s family issued a heartfelt tribute via the Metropolitan Police. They said: “Our beautiful daughter Sarah was taken from us and we are appealing for any information that will help to solve this terrible crime.”

Family Remembers Sarah as:

  • Bright and beautiful
  • A wonderful daughter and sister
  • Kind, thoughtful and caring
  • Dependable and selfless
  • Possessing an amazing sense of humour

The investigation continues as police work tirelessly to bring justice for Sarah Everard.
