Teen Arrested After Roof Gun Scare in Southampton Town Centre
Police have swooped on an 18-year-old man following a terrifying incident in Southampton today.
Man Caught After Roof Gun Threat
At 3.41pm on August 29, officers were flooded with calls about two people spotted on store roofs in Above Bar Street carrying what appeared to be long-barrelled firearms.
Armed police rushed to the scene and launched a thorough search. They quickly arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and assault causing actual bodily harm.
Victim Shot with Air Weapon
During the chaos, a 21-year-old Southampton man was reportedly shot in the leg with what police believe was an air weapon. Fortunately, his injury is not serious.
The arrested teen remains in custody as police hunt the second suspect seen on the roofs.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Images
Police understand the incident alarmed many in the busy town centre and thanked those who immediately alerted them and came forward as witnesses.
They are urging people to send any images circulating on social media directly to the police instead of sharing them, as these could prove crucial to the investigation.
