Postman Jailed for Killing Toddler in Brutal Rage

Scott Coombe, a devout Christian and postman, has been slapped with a nine-year prison sentence after fatally injuring his girlfriend’s 18-month-old son, Andrew Cawker. The horror unfolded on July 22, 2019, when Coombe lost his temper and threw the toddler to the floor, causing lethal head injuries.

Shock Abuse Inside Family Home

After the attack, Coombe frantically called emergency services, telling them Andrew was “a bit stiff” and had suddenly collapsed at his girlfriend’s flat in southeast London. Despite efforts to save the little boy, Andrew died in hospital days later.

Guilty Plea in Court

In court, Coombe owned up to manslaughter, admitting he shook Andrew violently and threw him in a fit of anger. The prosecution accepted his plea, highlighting the tragic consequences of his violent outburst.

Mother Also Sentenced for Child Cruelty

Andrew’s mother, 25-year-old Tamika Beaton from Peckham, was found guilty of child cruelty for failing to protect her son. She falsified explanations for his injuries, blaming his father and calling Andrew “clumsy” to cover the abuse. Beaton was handed a 12-month jail term, suspended for 18 months.

Judge Mark Lucraft KC condemned both for their roles in the toddler’s death, pointing to a “history of violence and abuse” towards the vulnerable child. The court revealed how Beaton’s affair with Coombe shortly after Andrew’s birth put her own interests above her son’s safety, with bruises appearing as early as March 2019.

This tragic case lays bare the devastating effects of abuse and neglect in a family home — with deadly results.
