London Marathon Chaos as Youth Protesters Halt Race with Paint Bomb

The 45th London Marathon erupted into drama this morning when youth activists stormed the course at Tower Bridge, throwing red paint and demanding an end to UK arms sales to Israel.

At 10:35am, two protesters crashed the men’s elite race, leaping over barriers and stopping runners in their tracks. Wearing t-shirts screaming “Youth Demand: Stop Arming Israel,” they doused the track in bright red powder before City of London Police swiftly arrested them.

Youth Demand: ‘We Won’t Back Down’

Youth-led group Youth Demand is calling on the UK government for a total trade embargo on Israel and to hold fossil fuel giants accountable for environmental destruction. The group’s passionate protests come amid rising global outrage over humanitarian abuses in Gaza.

18-year-old Willow Holland from Bristol told us:

“Thousands are dying in Gaza and our government sits on its hands. Marches and rallies have failed. We need resistance to stop being complicit in genocide. Profit should never come before human rights.”

Live-in carer Cristy North from Nottingham added:

“Palestinians are running out of time. Our taxes fund weapons used in these atrocities. I refuse to be complicit.”

‘Race Against Time’ – Youth Demand Spokesperson

A Youth Demand spokesperson slammed UK leadership, particularly Labour’s Keir Starmer:

“Gaza is running out of food, millions are starving under Israeli bombardment with UK complicity. Keir Starmer has crossed from denial to complicity. History will judge those who stayed silent.”

The group urges the public to join their cause at youthdemand.org.

Humanitarian Crisis Fuels Rising Tensions

  • The UN Food Programme warns Gaza’s food supplies are depleted, with over 400,000 people facing starvation due to Israel’s blockade.
  • Since March 2nd, Israel has blocked all humanitarian aid despite international court orders.
  • Over 60,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed during Israel’s ongoing military campaign.
  • UK government faces backlash over alleged support, including surveillance flights and use of Cyprus bases for Israeli air strikes.
  • MPs visiting the West Bank report detention and threats by Israeli forces amid fears of escalating violence.

Security Tightened as Marathon Resumes

Following the protest disruption, the London Marathon resumed with increased security. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the two protesters remain in custody.

Youth Demand vows: “Young people won’t stand by while war crimes happen. Only mass resistance can stop this systematic annihilation.”
