Hammer-Hating Rapist Locked Up for 13 Years After Brutal East London Attack
A vile rapist who nearly smashed a woman’s head in with a hammer has been jailed for 13 years. Ryan Bruce, 26, with no fixed address, admitted two counts of rape and was sentenced on Monday, 21 October.
Horrific Hammer Attack in East London
On the night of 13 March, Bruce tricked a woman in her 30s to meet him at an East London property he was illegally using. As she bent down to remove her shoes, Bruce struck her multiple times over the head with a claw hammer, leaving a deep cut that needed stitches.
Terrified, the victim initially thought it was a robbery and handed over her money, but Bruce forced her to strip and raped her twice.
Heroic Rescue and Swift Police Action
A relative of the flat’s owner returned home by chance and heard the victim’s cries from upstairs. Knowing the place should have been empty, they called the police.
Officers caught Bruce brandishing the hammer at the top of the stairs before he fled. He was quickly stopped nearby on Laburnum Street and arrested. Police found the victim’s phone on him.
Justice Served
Detective Constable Michael Dixon said: “This was a horrific attack and I am relieved that Ryan Bruce has today been sentenced to a lengthy prison sentence. Our community is safer with him behind bars.”
Bruce was charged with two counts of rape, actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, and theft. He pleaded guilty to rape at Wood Green Crown Court on 1 August and was sentenced on 21 October.
Thanks to quick thinking relatives and police action, this monster is off the streets for good.
