Brutal Jewellery Raid on Elderly Man Ends with Jail Sentence
A ruthless robber has been locked up for six years after breaking into an elderly man’s Southwark home and stealing £15,000 worth of jewellery.
Thugs Dragged Pensioner from Bed in Early Morning Horror
Peter Reed, 46, of Bath Close, SE15, admitted to the terrifying robbery at Inner London Crown Court on Thursday, 1 August. Alongside an accomplice, Reed forced his way into the victim’s home in the early hours of Sunday, 26 May. They dragged the elderly man, in his 70s, from his bed and tied him up before marching him downstairs.
The pair demanded cash and jewellery, threatening the victim throughout. Luckily, the man broke free and fled to his garden to raise the alarm.
Forensic Evidence and CCTV Lead to Conviction
Reed and his partner escaped with expensive jewellery worth £15,000. Officers discovered Reed had even visited the house the night before with another man, asking for someone called Michael. Finding no such person, they left.
A forensic sweep found Reed’s fingerprint on a clock inside the home, sealing his fate. Reed was arrested on 7 June and charged with robbery.
Police Hunt Second Suspect in Jewellery Heist
Detective Constable Jack Brackley said: “While I’m pleased Peter Reed has been jailed for this despicable crime, we are still looking for the second suspect and the stolen items.”
The wanted man is described as slim, light-skinned Arab, about 5ft 7in, with dark hair and facial hair, and linked to Reed.
“Anyone with information should contact police immediately,” DC Brackley urged.
