Knife-Wielding Burgess Hill Robber Jailed for Nearly Four Years
David Tree, 31, from Golden Hill, Burgess Hill, has been locked up after terrorising Co-op shop workers with a knife during a string of robberies last summer. The masked thug targeted multiple Co-op stores across the town in June and July 2022, leaving staff traumatised and frightened.

Wearing either a mask or balaclava, Tree threatened workers and demanded cash at knife-point. He also struck the Junction Road Co-op twice, brandishing a knife but fleeing when blocked.
Detectives Crack the Case
Specialist Enforcement Unit officers tracked Tree down after tracing his vehicle, leading to his arrest. Crawley CID carried out a thorough investigation, bringing the violent robber to justice.
Sentenced at Lewes Crown Court
On June 6, 2024, Tree appeared at Lewes Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to two robberies, an attempted robbery, three counts of possessing a bladed article, and going equipped for theft. The judge sentenced him to three years and nine months behind bars.
