Southampton Man Jailed for 30 Months Over Horrific Abuse Spree
Lloyd Rooke, 33, from West End, Southampton, was sentenced to 30 months behind bars and slapped with a seven-year restraining order. The court heard he subjected his victim to relentless controlling and coercive behaviour — without physical violence in some instances — at a Woolston address from August 2020.
Brutal Abuse and Twisted Mind Games
Rooke’s reign of terror included kicking, stamping, throwing a phone, whipping with a metal coat hanger, dunking his partner’s head in bath water, and death threats. His victim revealed she’d been gaslighted so severely that she started leaving notes on her phone just to prove the abuse was real.
“It feels as if I can see again,” the courageous woman said after breaking free.
Rooke also manipulated her mind by blaming her for his own mental health troubles and threatening self-harm whenever she tried to leave. He isolated her from friends and family, making her utterly dependent on him.
Violent Outburst Triggers SOS to Family
On the night of 21-22 February this year, Rooke ramped up the madness, verbally abusing the victim and spraying disinfectant in her eyes. He ripped a TV off the wall, spat, blew snot at her, and punched her in the head — all because he thought she hadn’t done housework or shopped.
Terrified, she fled to her mum and together they reported the nightmare to police.
Stalking and Threats Even After Arrest
Despite bail conditions forbidding contact, Rooke showed zero respect and repeatedly stalked the victim — crashing her home, texting, and messaging on social media.
The darkest moment came on April 29 when he followed her to work, threatening to crash into the building with his car. His victim revealed she’d planned suicide but stopped herself.
“There was always something in my head that made me not want to do it; I knew it was the wrong thing to do.”
Now supported by family and friends, she’s rebuilding her life. “I feel free, I feel safe,” she said. “I know no one is watching me now. It was just another act of his disgusting behaviour trying to get in my head.”
Police Praise Survivor’s Bravery
Chief Inspector Marcus Kennedy saluted the victim’s courage and vowed to keep fighting male violence against women. “Hopefully this sentence shows how hard we are working to make sure offenders are jailed,” he said. “Rooke is behind bars for his depraved catalogue of abuse and cannot harm another woman.”
