Teen Held Over Shocking Hackney Murder of 15-Year-Old

Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murdering 15-year-old Tashaûn Aird in Hackney. The teenager was taken into custody at a north-west London police station on the morning of Thursday, 9 May, where he remains held.

Stabbing in Somerford Grove Ends in Tragedy

The brutal attack unfolded on the evening of Wednesday, 1 May. Officers were called to Somerford Grove, N16, at 8.54pm following reports of a stabbing.

Tashaûn was found with a fatal stab wound and died at the scene despite desperate efforts from emergency services. A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as a stab wound to the lung.

Another 16-year-old was also stabbed during the incident but survived. His injuries were not life-threatening, and he has since been discharged from hospital.

Detectives Urge Witnesses to Speak Up

“Our investigation is making good progress,” said Detective Chief Inspector Helen Rance. “But we still need the public’s help to track down everyone involved in this horrific murder.”

Witnesses reported seeing Tashaûn and the second victim attacked by a group of four youths in a park near Somerford Grove. The victims were part of a group of around six when the suspects rushed them before fleeing the scene.

DCI Rance added: “If you saw what happened and haven’t spoken to police yet, please come forward. If you’re worried about talking directly, you can use anonymous methods like Crimestoppers. The killers must be taken off our streets.”

Tashaûn’s Family Pay Heartbreaking Tribute

“Tashaûn was family-oriented, passionate about music, and loved drawing,” the family said. “He was loving, caring, and had an infectious laugh. There are no words to fill this empty void. We have lost a dear son, brother, nephew, grandson, and uncle.”

Tashaûn was admired for his hard work, especially in English studies. His family said they remain deeply shocked and saddened by the loss.

Further Arrest Made, Court Appearances Underway

On Sunday, 5 May, police arrested an 18-year-old man who has since been charged with Tashaûn’s murder and grievous bodily harm with intent regarding the second victim.

He appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 7 May and at the Central Criminal Court on Thursday, 9 May.
