Serial Arsonist Omar Omar Locked Up for 12 Years After £4.5 Million Fire Spree

Fire Fiend Targets Car Dealership in Vicious Vendetta

Omar Omar, a 40-year-old car wash owner from Nottinghamshire, has been jailed for 12 years after a series of arson attacks left a local car dealership devastated to the tune of millions. Between January and December 2022, Omar launched four separate firebombing assaults on the Lowdham Road dealership in Gunthorpe, Nottinghamshire, destroying buildings and vehicles in a fiery vendetta.

Christmas Day Catastrophe and Multiple Blazes

The blaze spree climaxed on Christmas Day 2022 when Omar set alight two portacabins at the dealership, which operated alongside his own business. Minutes later, he torched a service station on the A46 at Cropwell Bishop. Forensic investigators linked Omar directly to the crimes after finding his DNA on a hammer at a fire scene and a burnt jacket matching CCTV footage hidden at his home.

Millions in Damage, Months of Lost Earnings

Omar began his arson attacks with a failed attempt on January 8, followed by a successful fire a week later that demolished a building and damaged cars for sale. An August fire destroyed three vehicles and an office. The combined damage and lost earnings due to these infernos have been estimated at a staggering £4.5 million.

Justice Served at Nottingham Crown Court

Initially denying the charges, Omar eventually pleaded guilty to four counts of arson and one attempted arson in August 2023. On September 22, Nottingham Crown Court sentenced him to 12 years behind bars. Detective Constable Chloe Baugh hit out at Omar’s “reckless” and “revenge-fueled” acts, which inflicted enormous financial and emotional harm on local business owners.

“Omar’s actions were reckless in the extreme and motivated by revenge and his intention to try and destroy the livelihoods of other business owners he was having issues with,” said DC Baugh.
