Lewisham Serial Sex Offender Jailed for Bus Attacks
A sick predator who preyed on young girls aboard Lewisham buses has finally been locked up. Mohammed Aminu, 26, from Hither Green, was sentenced to 30 months behind bars at Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday, 6 December.
Aminu faced multiple charges including three counts of sexual assault and one of sexual communication with a 14-year-old. He’s also been slapped with a 10-year stint on the Sex Offenders Register.
Horrific Bus Attacks on Schoolgirls
The terrifying crimes began on 1 March. Aminu got on a Route 181 bus on Lewisham High Street and started chatting to a 14-year-old girl. When she got off, he followed her and launched a vile sexual assault.
Just 30 minutes later, Aminu struck again aboard a Route 124 bus. He targeted a 16-year-old girl, spoke to her, then followed her all the way to school before assaulting her. Luckily, she managed to get help.
On 25 March in Soho, Aminu carried out a third assault, sneaking up on another victim after trailing them from a bus.
Brave Victims Help Nab Offender
The victims’ courage in reporting the crimes set police on Aminu’s trail. CCTV from the buses confirmed his identity, leading to his arrest on 9 May.
“These were particularly nasty assaults on girls going to school and an adult travelling home from work on a night bus. In every case, he used force against his victims.” – Detective Sergeant Matthew Brown
Transport for London Backs Police, Urges Reports
Mandy McGregor, TfL’s Head of Policing and Community Safety, welcomed the jail sentence. “These appalling incidents show the importance of victims coming forward. We thank the girls for their bravery, helping to bring this offender to justice.”
TfL and police urge anyone experiencing or witnessing sexual harassment on public transport to report it immediately. Call 101 or visit met.police.uk. Every report helps stop predators and keeps London’s buses safer for all.
