Rotherham Taxi Driver Convicted for Horrific Child Sex Crimes

Adam Ali, 43, also known as Razwan Razaq, has finally been found guilty of horrific sexual offences against children in Rotherham two decades ago. The taxi driver targeted vulnerable young girls between 2002 and 2004, abusing his position to assault them. His crimes came to light following a major National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation.

Decades-Old Abuse Brought to Justice

Ali used his taxi service to prey on young girls, driving them to secret locations where he sexually abused them. The victims, now in their 30s, were too scared to speak out when the abuse happened. But after the NCA’s Operation Stovewood identified them, they bravely came forward to tell their stories.

“Given the overwhelming evidence gathered against him, it was only right that justice has finally been served,” said Liz Fell, Specialist Prosecutor for the CPS, praising the victims for their courage.

One victim described how Ali, under the guise of concern, offered to drive her home and then raped her. Operation Stovewood, the UK’s largest probe into non-familial child sexual abuse, provided vital support and gathered evidence to secure Ali’s conviction.

Long Prison Past and Recent Arrest

At the time of these crimes, Ali was already serving an 11-year sentence for rape and other sexual offences in Rotherham, following a South Yorkshire Police investigation. Since his release in April 2023, authorities tracked his movements and arrested him again amid fears he would reoffend.

Ali has remained in custody awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for June 25.

Operation Stovewood: Justice for Over 1,100 Victims

Launched in 2014, Operation Stovewood has identified more than 1,100 victims and made over 200 arrests, securing 28 convictions alongside many ongoing investigations. The NCA and CPS continue to prioritize prosecuting those who exploit children.

Liz Fell emphasized the profound, lasting impact of child sexual abuse and vowed relentless pursuit of justice. This landmark verdict sends a clear message: no matter how much time has passed, perpetrators will face the full force of the law.

Victims of child sexual abuse and sexual violence are urged to come forward and seek justice.
