Aberdeen Man Jailed for Nine Years Over Shocking Sexual Assault

Aberdeen has seen justice served after Buruhana Jabang, 37, was locked up for nine years for serious sexual offences. The sentence was handed down on 12 March 2025 at Aberdeen High Court following his conviction for assaulting a woman in the Mastrick area back in August 2021.

‘Despicable’ Crime Exposed

Jabang was found guilty on 12 February 2025 after a hard-fought trial. Detective Sergeant Krystina Porter, who led the investigation, branded his actions “despicable.” She said, “He will now face the consequences of his crimes in jail. We hope this sentencing provides some measure of closure for the woman involved.” Porter also praised the victim’s bravery, whose testimony was crucial in securing the conviction.

Police Scotland emphasised their commitment to cracking down on sexual offences, urging victims to come forward. “We remain dedicated to thoroughly investigating all reports and making sure offenders are brought to justice,” Porter added.

Help Is Out There for Victims

A spokesperson from Rape Crisis Scotland stressed, “No one should suffer in silence. Support is available, and you are not alone.”

Community Breathes a Sigh of Relief

Residents in Mastrick welcomed the sentencing. One anonymous neighbour told The Sentinel Current, “It’s a relief to know he’s off the streets. This area is supposed to be safe for everyone.”

Sexual Offences: A Growing Concern

Sexual crimes remain a pressing issue across the UK. The Office for National Statistics reports a worrying rise in cases, sparking calls for tougher prevention and education efforts. Aberdeen police vow to keep fighting to protect vulnerable people and bring offenders like Jabang to justice.
